For example. with pre-cut blanks from the Gardena Valley.
The Gardena Valley in Southern Tyrol is known all over the world for its centuries-old tradition of wood carving. In the 1600s - during long winter nights - the farmers first began to whittle toys and later on artifacts to be offered at the spring markets. Today, skilled craftsmen have revived this tradition, creating historical artifacts that meet the taste of the present. Experienced artists create the base models in many variations. Master patterns are cast in bronze and then duplicated in quantities. The craftsmen use pantographs to copy the masters and shape the wooden blanks that can then be detailed and finished by the hobby carver.
